A Roadtrip Across Nepal In January, I went to Nepal. It was eye-opening. It was different from any other place I’ve been before. It was beautiful, ugly, awe-inspiring, off-putting, and more than anything else– unforgettable. It began with a rough start. A layover on a discount Chinese airline resulted in my second flight being cancelled…

Happy New Year! (2013) So for New Year’s Eve, Nicole and I really didn’t have a plan. We wanted to do something, but we didn’t know what. A few friends were talking about different things but nothing was set in stone, and we didn’t want the night to pass with nothing to say for it. And so…
Paragliding Lessons Nicole and I learned how to paraglide while we were living in Taiwan. It was a month of crack-of-dawn mornings to practice in the heat of the Taiwanese sun every day for hours before work, and it was so worth it. This is a video of the first week, our first test flights,…
A Month of Flying Paragliding has been a sometimes exhilarating, sometimes terrifying, sometimes exhausting, but always incredible experience. It all started back in September. Nicole and I had gone for lunch, and there was another waiguoren (foreigner) in the cafe. Living in a small town means that foreigners typically are friendly to each other, because it’s…
There’s been a hot air balloon festival in Taidong, over on the east coast, all summer. Nicole and I wanted to go for weeks, but never could make it happen, but had decided that we’d make sure to get out there for the last day. Because surely the last day will be extra big! You…
Kevin was in Taiwan for a year and a half, and sadly (for us) he’s now moved on to his next adventures (hopping around South East Asia and two months at a Kung Fu camp in China— I’m so jealous!). For the last several months he’s been talking about wanting to go to Kenting to…
James and I met in Beijing, you might remember, when we were both studying at Renmin Daxue. He’s been in China for the last year, first doing a second semester in Beijing, then an internship in Shanghai. When he left China he opted for stopping by Taiwan for a few weeks before heading home to…
So Nicole, Youming, Kevin and I packed up for a weekend in Xiao Liuqiu. We booked so late that every hostel was already filled to the brim except one, so we grabbed the last available room on the island and headed out.
Nicole arrived in Taiwan on June 29th, and it has been an interesting few weeks.
Sam, Youming, and I took a trip back to Liangshan one weekend. This was my third trip there (trips one and two were both pretty wonderful), and it remains my favorite spot on this island.
