Song to Inspire You to Travel
There's nothing quite like a good song to make you want to sell all of your belongings and see the world. Here are a few that never fail to inspire me to travel.
First up is my favorite song: The Story by Brandi Carlile. This has been my go-to song for about three years now.
This song, Just One Day by Mighty Oaks, is my current obsession. Let's jump in the car with a few close friends and just GO. There's no better time, right?
Feel good music about a day well lived. Best Day of My Life by American Authors.
Old Pine by Ben Howard is a song for campfires by the ocean, memories of summer, and the people you share those perfect moments with.
Here's a reminder that sometimes it's time to move on for you, not for anyone else. Anna Kendrick's Cups (When I'm Gone)
Mumford and Sons with catchy indie folk music, a ridiculous music video starring a few of your favorite comedians, and a song about life as a wanderer-- how great is life?? Hopeless Wanderer.
Here's one to make you feel like you can do absolutely anything. In My Mind by Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl featuring Georgi Kay.
"The world is ours, I can feel the music in me." This song is fun. And it makes me want to car/plane/train/bus dance. Glorious by Cascada.
This one will slow things down for a minute-- You Belong to Me is probably the best long distance love song ever. My favorite version is this one, by Carla Bruni. (Another good version is by Kate Rusby.)
Trying to decide what to do with your life? Wanting to start over, try something new, do something you've never done before? Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield is a pretty perfect reminder to write the story of your life the way you want it.
Ben Howard's second appearance on my list. I love this guy. Keep Your Head Up is a song about the fire in your eyes when you live the life you want to live.
Slow it Down by Amy Macdonald is all about a fast life, seeing things and moving on, and a reminder that sometimes you've got to just take a moment.
These lyrics don't really make sense, but this is still on my travel songs list because it makes me want to jump from a very tall cliff into the ocean while it plays in the background. Not sure why. But I'm sticking with it. Human by The Killers.
This song has one line, on repeat. Consider it a mantra. "You won't be around forever, girl. You've gotta grab life with both hands." PPP by Snow Patrol.
To end this list, I'm going with my Dad's all-time favorite song, What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. I grew up with this song being played all around me, and its perfect optimism will always be a reminder for me of the beauty of our world.
There are a hundred other songs out there to inspire you to get out and travel. These are the songs that move me. Feel free to leave a comment if you have other songs to recommend!
Reblogged this on NYC- living in Dreams and commented:
This is so beautiful. It’s amazing what a song can inspire in you.
I am very often influenced by music and have had many of these same songs on my traveling play lists <3
I had never heard that one Republic song before. I love the lyrics, they’re amazing! So perfect for a little inspiration!
Agreed. OneRepublic is, in general, amazing. But that’s got to be my favorite.
This is a great post! Some of the bands/songs I have never heard. Brandi Carlile is a great singer, and I have a few of her albums, but I am not familiar with the story. It’s a great song! I also really like that she has the Auron from The Neverending Story on her shoulders, which in some ways is what we are all traveling and living: a never-ending story.
Thanks! Brandi is my favorite– but didn’t know about the tattoo. Love your interpretation!
Love this! Ben Howard, so much yes! Are you on Spotify?
I downloaded the app once and never did anything with it. Glad you’re loving Ben Howard, too. He’s amazing!
never thought too hard about music to inspire travel but subconsciously I knew. Such great songs!
Love this post! ‘Unwritten’ is one of my favorite songs. I actually love it as a workout tune-just sped up a bit. Thanks for all the great music!

Thank you for that. I hadn’t heard Conrad yet, and it’s beautiful. Ben Howard has always had the ability to put me in a sort of trance.
