Indonesia

Still water runs deep.

Indonesian Proverb[spacer height="20px"]

Bali, Lombok, the Gili Islands, Una Una.
Islands scattered through the Indian Ocean, full of palm trees and coconuts, creeping vines, sandy shores and boiling geysers.

The locals' faiths shape the culture in different parts of Indonesia, so be ready for a very different experience from one island to the next. In Gorontalo I'd wake up early every morning to the sound of prayers being called. In Bali, Hindu statues guard forest paths and water shrines.

Lots of things didn't go according to plan for us in Indonesia-- but that opened up opportunities to see parts of the country that I wouldn't have otherwise (like Gili Air, which I loved with all my heart).

Another place that, one of these days, I'll have to return to.
There's still so much more to explore.
